Sustainable choices drive long-term growth

The Statistics division of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs highlights the following: “Reliable, accessible and affordable public transportation reduces pollution and traffic and promotes productivity and inclusion.” The Metro Express Light Rail Transit (LRT) system being deployed by Larsen & Toubro at the heart of the Mauritius’s main cities is a crucial step towards attaining the UN SDG Goal 11, “Sustainable Cities and Communities.” The project – which has direct and indirect nation-wide magnitude – was not halted during the lockdowns. On the contrary, Larsen & Toubro ensured that the expected milestones were reached in a timely manner. Thus, the Metro Express infrastructure project has remained a driving force for all related private, public and parastatal organisations. In parallel, it has allowed the testing and implementation of safety measures to mitigate the risk of airborne virus transmission in crowded public transports.
